Paulette Davidson of the Virginia State Bar has been contacted by a local (Charlottesville/Albemarle) group that is planning a Parent/Student resource conference for special needs students transitioning out of high school. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, with a snow date of Saturday, March 3. It will be held at Ivy Creek School, 225 Lambs Lane, Charlottesville. The conference will run from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and will offer several sessions to attendees.
Ms. Davidson contacted me to inquire about getting someone from our bar association to make a presentation or organize a panel presentation on the So You’re 18 booklets offered by the Conference of Local Bar Associations (CLBA). Several bar associations across the state have used the panel presentation blueprint provided by the CLBA to present these booklets within their local school systems. For the blueprint of the program, please click the following: SoYou’re18Blueprint
As noted in the blueprint, the presenters usually include a local sheriff, police chief, commonwealth’s attorney, defense attorney, someone familiar with social services, a local general district court Judge or juvenile and domestic court Judge and a moderator. It might also be a good idea to have a guidance counselor from one of the high schools on the panel.
If you would be interested in presenting or organizing a panel for this program, please contact Ms. Davidson as soon as possible at 804-775-0521 or davidson@vsb.org. Participation would require a two-hour commitment which will be broken down into two one-hour presentations (the same program two times). These can also be put together with different participants for each presentation.

This prohibition will not apply to licensed attorneys and their staff provided the devices remain de-activated until activation is approved by the Court. Use of audio-visual equipment for selected cases will be permitted upon advance approval by the Court.
Violation of this prohibition may result in the seizure and confiscation of the device in question and a finding of contempt, with attendant punitive sanctions imposed where appropriate upon the offending party.
